The Essex Cornerstone Club recently threw down the gauntlet to the Essex Light Blues Association, challenging them to a friendly night of pool, shuffleboard, and socialising at Boom Battle Bar in Lakeside.
What followed was a fiercely contested evening of cue-sport excellence… well, depending on which side you ask.
The pool competition was, by all accounts, extremely close. In fact, the final score was only 22–2 to the Light Blues. A nail-biter. Some say it could have gone either way. Others say Cornerstone are already looking into bringing in a professional coach before the rematch.
But Cornerstone weren’t about to let the night end there.
Moving over to the shuffleboard tables, the Cornerstone team rallied, regrouped, and mounted an impressive comeback to win the shuffleboard, restoring pride and proving that sporting glory sometimes just requires a different table.
More importantly, the evening delivered exactly what it was meant to: great fellowship, plenty of laughs, a few drinks, and the chance for brethren from across Essex to spend time together outside the Lodge room.
The night also raised £285, supporting Cornerstone’s £10k for 10 Years Challenge as well as Get Started Art, making the event not only fun but meaningful too.

We’re already looking forward to the rematch… although next time we might bring our own pool cues. 🎱
