The October social for the Essex Cornerstone Club saw members gather in the heart of the City for a relaxed and sociable evening of drinks at The Astronomer, just moments from Liverpool Street Station.
Perfectly placed for an after-work meet-up, The Astronomer provided an ideal setting for one of Cornerstone’s informal London socials. With its lively atmosphere, spacious layout, and easy transport links, it allowed members to drop in straight from work or travel in from across Essex, making it one of the most accessible socials of the autumn calendar.
The evening was deliberately simple and unstructured, exactly what makes these socials work so well. Over drinks, members caught up on recent Lodge meetings, shared plans for upcoming Cornerstone events, and welcomed newer faces attending their first Cornerstone gathering. Small groups formed and re-formed throughout the night, reflecting the easy, inclusive nature that Cornerstone prides itself on.
What stood out most was the sense of connection. Bringing Freemasons under 40 together in central London creates opportunities to meet brethren from different Lodges who might not otherwise cross paths, helping to strengthen relationships and broaden friendships beyond local areas.
As the night went on, the buzz of conversation and laughter filled the venue, with no rush to leave and plenty of stories being shared. It was a reminder that not every successful event needs an activity or theme, sometimes a good venue, good company, and the chance to unwind is more than enough.
The October drinks social at The Astronomer was another strong example of how Essex Cornerstone continues to offer flexible, accessible events that fit around busy lives while keeping fellowship at the centre of everything it does.
